Dr Pen Cartridges Compatibility Chart: M8, M8S, A6S, A9, A20, H6
Use this chart when you know the device model but are not sure which cartridge family to buy. Dr Pen and Hydra Pen cartridge names can be similar, but model fit is not universal. Confirm the model first, then choose pin count, nano style, or combo pack inside that family.
Dr Pen cartridge compatibility chart
| Device family | Start here | Common options to compare | Related guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dr Pen M8 | M8 cartridges | 11 pin, 16 pin, 36 pin, 42 pin, nano, combo packs | M8 cartridge guide |
| Dr Pen M8S | M8S cartridges | 12, 18, 24, 36, 42 pin, round nano, square nano, combo packs | M8S cartridge guide |
| Dr Pen A6 / A6S | A6 cartridges / A6S cartridges | A6 and A6S model-specific options | A6 vs M8 guide |
| Dr Pen A9 | A9 cartridges | 12, 18, 24, 36, 42 pin, round nano, square nano, combo packs | A9 cartridge guide |
| Dr Pen A20 | A20 cartridges | 12, 18, 24, 36, 42 pin, round nano, square nano | A20 cartridge guide |
| Hydra Pen H6 | H6 cartridges | 18, 36, 42 pin, round nano, square nano | H6 cartridge guide |
The model-first rule
The same pin count can appear in several model families. That does not make the cartridges interchangeable. A 12 pin A20 cartridge and a 12 pin M8S cartridge can be different products because the connector and lock shape matter.
What to check before opening the pack
- Device family printed on the pen, box, or manual.
- Product collection and product title.
- Cartridge connector, neck, and locking tabs in the product photos.
- Pin count or nano shape after model fit is confirmed.
- Sterile blister pack condition before use.
Model notes for common cartridge families
| Family | Common confusion | Safer buying note |
|---|---|---|
| M8 | Often confused with M8S because the names look close. | Use the M8 collection for M8 devices and read the M8 vs M8S guide before switching families. |
| M8S | Marketplace titles may list M8S beside A8, A9, A11, or M8. | Only buy from the M8S family when the device label says M8S and the connector matches. |
| A6 / A6S | A6 and A6S are close but should still be checked separately. | Use the exact collection that matches the label and compare the original cartridge neck. |
| A9 | Some listings mention multiple A-series models together. | Treat A9 as its own family unless the product page clearly explains compatibility. |
| A20 | A20 has several pin counts plus nano options. | Confirm A20 first, then compare 12, 18, 24, 36, 42 pin, round nano, or square nano. |
| H6 | Hydra Pen model names can be mixed with H5 or other families. | Stay with the H6 collection for H6 devices and compare H6-specific product photos. |
How to read product titles
A useful product title should name the model family, the tip style or pin count, and the pack quantity. For example, a clear title tells you whether the product is for M8S, whether it is 24 pin or square nano, and whether the pack includes five or ten cartridges. If a title only says “Dr Pen cartridges” without model detail, use the collection, product photos, and support information before buying.
What this chart does not decide
This chart helps with product selection and compatibility, not with choosing a treatment plan. It cannot tell you whether microneedling is appropriate for your skin, what depth to use, or whether an at-home device is right for a specific concern. For those decisions, use professional guidance and stay conservative.
Where pin count and nano fit into the decision
After the model is clear, use the pin count and nano selection guide to compare 9, 11, 12, 16, 18, 24, 36, 42 pin, round nano, and square nano options. Pin count is a tip choice, not a compatibility shortcut.
If the cartridge will not fit
Stop before forcing it. Save the packaging, compare the old and new connector, and use the cartridge fit troubleshooting guide. A wrong connector usually needs an exchange, not extra pressure.

How to use this chart without creating a duplicate order
Open one model row at a time. If your device is M8S, do not also shop the M8 row unless you are buying for a second device. If your device is A20, stay in the A20 row and compare A20 pin counts or nano options there. This prevents the common mistake of collecting several good-looking products from different families and then discovering that only one family fits the actual pen.
Compatibility chart FAQ
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is pin count the same as compatibility? | No. Pin count describes the tip array. Compatibility depends on the device family and connector. |
| Can one cartridge fit every Dr Pen device? | Do not assume that. Use the model family shown in the product title and collection. |
| What if my model is not listed? | Use the shop navigation or contact support with a photo of the device label and original cartridge. |
| Should I open the pack to test fit? | Only after the model, connector, and listing look correct. Keep the pack sealed while checking. |
Use only sterile, compatible cartridges. Do not reuse cartridges, do not share cartridges, and do not treat irritated, infected, sunburned, or broken skin. If you have a medical skin concern or are unsure whether a device is appropriate for you, ask a licensed professional before use.
